Our Mission
Path Place Architecture creates functional and beautiful living spaces through a human-centered design approach. This drives our entire process, both in the way we design and how we engage with our clients, consultants and contractors to collectively bring a project to completion. Our practice is rooted in a commitment to utilizing quality materials and creative architectural solutions that are built to support our clients for years to come.
Kelley Surun
Principal Architect
Kelley founded Path Place Architecture in 2017 with the core value of placing humans at the center of the architecture story. She understands architecture as a means of communication, and an opportunity to make people’s lives richer through improving their physical environments. She sees every new project as a collaborative opportunity to work closely with client, contractor, and each of the trades, to bring to fruition a design response fulfilling the desires of the clients. Her education and depth of experience combine to influence how she thoughtfully designs each aspect of the spaces that her clients will interact with.
She has been working in the field for over 20 years. Kelley’s professional experience began as an original member of the in-house design team at Payne/Bouchier in Boston, working alongside fabricators and builders. She has worked for a variety of smaller residential and commercial architecture firms in Boston and New York, and from 2006 until founding PPA, she operated a successful freelance business.
Kelley has focused on reimaging urban housing by designing renovations in a variety of brownstones, lofts and apartments. Her design work can be experienced in the homes of her clients from New York, Connecticut, Boston, Nantucket and Rhode Island to California, Texas, New Mexico and New Zealand.
Kelley is licensed in New York and Massachusetts, and is NCARB certified for licensing in other states. She is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Kelley received her Masters in Architecture from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and was an American Association of University Women Fellow during her second year. She also received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from MassArt.
